Years passed. After Thomas won custody of his nephews, he was relieved that their drunk father wouldn’t be around to abuse or hurt them. Back in the operating room, James was looking at the triplets next to their mother’s lifeless body. Nancy had passed away during labor, but the doctor had chosen to save the babies. Nichols, having done his job, left the operating room and saw his colleague Thomas waiting outside. When Thomas looked at Nichols’ face, he realized something was wrong. Nichols informed Thomas that Nancy had passed away but the babies were alive. Devastated, Thomas learned of his sister’s death.
Then, Joe arrived, asking where Nancy was. Seeing Joe, Thomas exploded in anger and threw him against the wall, telling him to leave. He blamed Joe for pushing Nancy into labor prematurely and for her death.
