American actor Ron Ely, who is known for his role as Tarzan in the 1960s TV series of the same name, has died at the age of 87, the BBC reports.
the information about Ely’s death was confirmed by his daughter Kirsten Casale Ely via Instagram.
“The world lost one of the best people and I lost my father,” Kirsten wrote.
The series “Tarzan” originally ran on NBC from 1966 to 1968, and Ely suffered several fractures during filming and was attacked by animals while filming scenes. After retiring from acting in 2001, he became an author and published two novels. Then, in 2014, he briefly returned to acting and had a role in the television movie “Expecting Amish”.
In the 1980s, Ely also appeared in some other TV programs, including the comedy “The Love Boat.”
He was born in Texas in 1938 and married his high school sweetheart in 1959. They divorced two years later.
Ely was the host of the Miss America beauty pageant in the early eighties, where he met his second wife, Valerie, with whom he has three children.
He died at his home in Los Alamos, Santa Barbara, California on September 29, but the news of his death has only just been released.
“My father was someone people called a hero. He was an actor, a writer, a coach, a mentor, a family man and a leader. I knew him as my father,” added Kirsten.
